“Kathy, I’m lost, I said though I knew she was sleeping. I’m empty and aching and I don’t know why……” Yes. Well, but I do. This nightmare is soul crushing. I’m holding on by the skin of my teeth. (Now I must go research that idiom.)
So true Cindy. As a recruiter I didn’t see much of the Dunning–Kruger effect bc we would not place people in jobs WE knew they couldn’t do. WHY? Bc we read their resume! It sounds to me more like anosognosia including the hiring crew. “someone is unaware of their own mental health condition or that they can’t perceive their condition accurately.”
We could jump on Linked and social media, look for “Denmark” and send messages to them reminding them voting results were skewed/ voter suppression, closed polls, propaganda by bad billionaires and Russia. It is not most of us.
Good and chilling movie is Lee, ♀ photographer during WWII. Should have won academy.
Hi Cindy, always love your take on things, even when it is so hard to read. But was really hoping for more in the "what else can we do?" section. Everyone seems to be waiting for someone else to do something. I have decided to attend rallies, try to cut down expenses to donate more, write all reps that are speaking out, and am looking for what other action I can take. And then there's Bernie Sanders out there "fighting Oligarchy" - anyways, Cindy, would love to hear more about what you think we can do. And thanks for speaking out and being a great human.
What else can we do? We should do whatever we can, as much as we can, for as long as we can. What I do is send money to people and campaigns who seem to have the traction and the credibility to turn this ship around. Plus I write a lot of letters and march when I am able. If it turns out that we need to sack the regime by force, I’m can’t help with that because my regime-sacking days are behind me. But I’ll be at the world-wide march on April 5 because it’s something I can do. I want Americans and all our freaked out former allies watching the nightly news to see the American people coming out to resist by the hundreds of thousands.
I’m a tiny person on a lonely planet. Whatever I contribute never looks like it moves the needle at all. Everything feels like spitting in the ocean. There is nothing you or I CAN do on our own or in small groups. If it were otherwise, we probably wouldn’t be stuck sitting here with this roiling anxiety. Our interests are bound up with everyone else’s now. So I do what I can to show faith in the legions of us and keep my gaze on the big picture.
When I need to refresh my grip on the big picture, I go watch video of starling murmurations. It’s not one or even a few birds making that beautiful sight. It’s ALL of them. A few years ago, I was out watching the starlings when, for one split moment, I was in the middle of a murmuration. I don’t know why they swooped in on me, but when they did, for that moment, all I could hear was the din from their wings and all I could see was a bunch of birds looking crazy, flying in all directions.
You and I are like one of those birds. Our job is to stay close to the group, do what we are able, and keep it up. The American people must create our own murmuration. We have to go forward as if we are a part of something waaaaay bigger and behave as if we intend to prevail.

Keep going oh wise one. 💕
That’s a brilliant idea!

I wish I had a pithier answer today.
