I lost a dear friend last night. Fortunately, it wasn’t because of something I said. She died unexpectedly during a medical procedure. Warning to my GenX and younger readers: this gets more normal the older you get. I’ve tried today to push past it and write the column I had planned for y’all. But the hour grows late and I find that I simply cannot.
For this one moment, I just want to focus on the friend I loved, and her bereaved wife, and be still. I realize I am at “that time of life.” but that’s pretty cold comfort.
I’ll be back next week in my usual form.
Until then, please take inventory of the people you love. Then let them know, in no uncertain terms, what they mean to you. Turns out, they are not ours to keep.
Will this ever get any easier, do you think? I pray it never will.
